Three images of the Chambers Wharf and Cold Store in central London. Taken with a Holga, these images have then been scanned and digitally re-mastered.
Chambers Wharf, Bermondsey, Chambers Street, SE16
Chambers Wharf and Cold Store was a dockside warehouse and one of the last still standing in this part of London. Much of the surrounding area has already been redeveloped and this site is now too under redevelopment. The building was built in the 1930’s as a store for imported foodstuffs. It was briefly used by the British Army during the Second World War sparking rumours of bomb shelters and tunnels under the Thames. Towards the end of it’s life it was used as a document store and also possibly for gold bullion. The redevelopment is due to complete in 2012 providing over 500 homes on a four acre site.
